Meet our Trust Officers

While part of a local community bank, the members of our Trust Department are constantly updating their professional skills, knowledge and expertise about the rules and laws governing trusts, estates and wealth preservation strategies. Members of our Trust Department belong to a variety of local and national professional organizations and serve on the boards or advisory committees of several local charitable and professional organizations.

In addition to our Trust Officers, our Trust Department has a staff of professionals who are responsible for the administrative and operational functions designed to serve Trust Department clients.

Attorney Moira Bessette Martin is currently Senior Vice President and Senior Trust Officer in the Trust Department of Essex Savings Bank in Essex, Connecticut. Prior to joining Essex Savings Bank in 2008, Attorney Martin served in a similar capacity for a large national bank’s private wealth management division. Before working in bank trust administration, Ms. Martin was in the private practice of law for several years in Connecticut and New York with an emphasis on domestic and international estate planning for wealthy individuals, charitable giving techniques and charitable entities formation and ongoing compliance.

During her years of private practice, Attorney Martin focused on advising individuals with regard to all aspects of estate planning, estate and trust administration, charitable planning and the establishment of domestic and international charitable organizations.

In her tenure in bank trust administration, Attorney Martin has managed all aspects of relationship and fiduciary administration for trust and investment management accounts totaling over $400 million. She has also been responsible for new business development and client and investor outreach activities.

Attorney Martin received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Providence College and a Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law. She is a member of the Connecticut and New York state bars and a member of the Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut Tax and Estate Planning Councils.



Nancy M. Vendetti, TEP

Nancy M. Vendetti has over 25 years of comprehensive experience in banking, estate planning, taxation and private client wealth management as a vice president and private consultant. She worked for BankBoston, Fleet Bank and Webster Financial Advisors in varied roles as tax manager, estate settlement officer and trust officer. She has managed accounts for high net worth individuals and families, as well as philanthropic accounts for charitable trusts and non-profit organizations. Prior to coming to Essex Savings Bank in 2006, she was an estate and trust paralegal with Withers Bergman LLP in New Haven, CT, where she was responsible for estate and trust tax preparation, as well as trust and estate administration.

As a private consultant for attorneys and their clients, she has assisted beneficiaries with their financial responsibilities after the death of a loved one, including business continuation planning.

In New York City she worked for international mortgage banking consultant, Samuel Silverman, as assistant and general office manager.

In Siena, Italy she was a participant and assistant in an international music and art program.

Ms. Vendetti is a past president and current board member of the Western Connecticut Estate and Tax Planning Council, treasurer of the Connecticut Estate and Tax Planning Council, as well as a current member of the Eastern Connecticut Estate and Tax Planning Councils.

Ms. Vendetti is actively involved with the Children’s Community School in Waterbury, Connecticut, and is currently a board member.

Prior to joining Essex Savings Bank, David served as Vice President, Senior Fiduciary Officer at The Washington Trust Company beginning in 1994. In this position he was responsible for managing large and complex trust relationships, the settlement of complex estates, the management of departmental risk through document review, litigation oversight and assistance in the development of fiduciary policies and procedures to be carried out and followed by trust administration staff.

Prior to joining The Washington Trust Company, David was engaged in private legal practice for more than 10 years. He holds a B.A. from Union College and a J.D. from the Syracuse University College of Law.

David is the past president of both the Rhode Island Estate Planning Council and the Estate Planning Council of Southeastern Connecticut. He has also served as chairman of the Distribution Committee of the James and Mary Shea Foundation, president of the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, treasurer of the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, treasurer of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, and Vice President of the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center.
